Vocabulary Words explanation irrigation mended forged ricocheting gully authority tribe harness exhausted

Explanation The act or process of explaining. The teacher is explaining the problem to her student.

Irrigation The artificial application of water to land to assist in the production of crops. The farmer irrigated his crops because the land was so dry.

Mended To make something whole by repairing it. Sarah mended her torn shirt.

Forged To make or form. The construction crew forged a new building.

Ricocheting Bouncing off of one object onto another. The soccer ball ricocheted off the smiley faces head.

Gully A ditch or gutter. Ted vaulted over the gully and made it safely to the other side.

Authority The power to command others. The President of the United States is given authority as our Commander and Chief.

Tribe Any group of people with the same customs or practices. The Indian tribe wore beautiful feathers as decorations.

Harness The combination of straps, bands, and other parts forming the working gear of a draft animal, such as a horse. The horse was wearing a harness.

Exhausted To have no energy, worn out. The smiley was exhausted after a hard day’s work.
