You will also learn what it would be like to grow up in a region like this, and how this compares to the genocide that occurred during the Holocaust. ◈ You will need to open the following document. Background The Sudan is the largest country in Africa. In 2003, a group of Arab militias (funded and armed by the government) began the mass murder of men, women, and children in Western Sudan, in the area known as Darfur.
