Senate Update FY14 BOD 1 Brittney Elko Senate Speaker

Overall Process Notified of vacancy June 27 th Created Senate Nominating subcommittee July 3 rd Utilized existing procedure for Call for Nominations Last BOD Vacancy subcommittee only sent out call to Senators Decided to send Society-wide this time Emphasized need to have Senator as nominator Made tweaks to existing Consent, Statement, & Nomination Form to fit Vacancy Received 4 nominations Page 2

Overall Process Senate had HQ verify eligibility Utilized Colette for other bylaws questions around eligibility Senate Nom Com conducted interviews Nom Com provided white paper on the basic responsibilities of the Board for use Nom Com also provided as well as the questions that they used for the interviews Page 3

Overall Process Senate Nom Com solicited feedback Focused on Leadership Competencies: Self Management Business Knowledge & Management Communication Leadership Abilities Voting Period / Information Bio from Candidates focusing on their Outreach and Advocacy activities SWE Resume Will ask Senators for feedback on process Update procedure based on this year’s process Page 4

Learnings Having procedure & documents ready to go helped speed up process / get out call for candidates Very agile nominating committee that was ready to hit the ground running Felt comfortable vetting candidates and only putting those qualified on the slate t time) 60 day timeline is imperative Last year’s expedited timing created large slate, short voting period, etc. Nom Com doesn’t save feedback from current year but would be helpful for this situation Page 6

Mega Issues Committee Mega Issues illuminate choices SWE must make and the challenges we need to overcome in moving toward our Envisioned Future Past: Collaborates with Senate Speaker, Deputy Speaker and SPC Chair to conduct dialogue discussions with SWE members Mega Issues came from the SWE Strategic Plan or the Senate Task Force created when needed Now: This year’s Mega Issue Committee will be working to restructure the way that MIs are worked A new structure will help align this committee better with the new strategic direction Senators requested to work this fiscal Page 7 7
