Objective Writing 102 Creating and Critiquing (grab a slate, cloth and marker)

Bellwork On a piece of scratch paper, write down one objective that you have used in your classroom in the last week, that you are using today, or will use in the future.

Objective By the end of this workshop session, all teachers will be able to create effective instructional objectives by analyzing sample objectives with colleagues.

What is an objective? It states exactly what the students will learn It states how and when the students will learn it It is observable and measurable It is NOT an agenda

New Bloom’s Taxonomy

2 Part/4 Part Objectives 2 Part Objective: ◦ The Learning (noun) – what will be learned ◦ The Behavior (verb) – how it will be learned 4 Part Objective: ◦ Condition ◦ Learning (Bloom’s + specific content area) ◦ Behavior ◦ Performance Level

Example – 2 Part Objective You are going to be teaching students how to bake a chocolate cake with a recipe. ◦ The Learning – baking a chocolate cake ◦ The Behavior – following a recipe Objective: Students will be able to bake a chocolate cake by following the recipe provided.

Example – 4 Part Objective You are going to be teaching students how to bake a chocolate cake with a recipe. ◦ Condition ◦ Learning (Bloom’s + specific content area) ◦ Behavior ◦ Performance Level Objective: Given a recipe, students will be able to bake a chocolate cake with 100% accuracy by following a set procedure.

Partner Share Stand up, make eye contact with someone not on either side of you, and walk over to that person with your bellwork activity. Based on what you have learned so far, ◦ Take one minute to share your bell work objective with an eye partner. Discuss with your partner the Bloom’s level in which you believe your objective falls. Be prepared to defend as a team.

Looking Ahead Now that you’ve had the training, please write and post an objective in your classroom each day. This week meet in your smaller PLCs on Tuesday and Thursday to evaluate the objectives you are using in your classrooms. Friday, March 11 th PLC workshops will be held in the library. This is a mandatory training provided by the District. Monday, March 14 th, PLC workshops in the library to review the walk through protocols. Wednesday, March 16 th, PLC workshops/walk- throughs.
