Representing Variability with Mean, Median, and Mode 6 th Grade MDC Formative Assessment Lesson 6.SP. I can find the number of observations. I can find measures of center and variation. I can summarize numerical data in graphs and tables.

What will my group be scored on?? Critical Thinking Productivity Collaboration Communicati on

What does good Collaboration Look Like?? The group works on common tasks towards a common goal The group demonstrates effective leadership Each group member pulls their own weight The group works together to work on improvements for their work and solutions Each group member helps to ensure completion of the given task. Penalty Shoot-Out 20 Minutes Individual Read through the sheet and try to answer the questions as carefully as you can. Try to present your work in an organized and clear manner, so everyone can understand it.

Whole Class 20 Minutes How well do you like … Minecraft Use your whiteboard and dry erase marker to record your rating of Minecraft on a scale of 1-6 with 1 = poor and 6 = great.

Steps to Creating a Histogram Creating the Display Minecraft Rating

Analyzing the Data Now use the histogram to … Find the mean Find the Median Find the Mode Find the Range

Collaborative small-group work 35 Minutes You will work together to match the cards with the mean, median, mode, and range to the frequency histograms. Each group member will work on matching cards. You will explain why you made a particular match to your group. Put your matches on your poster.

1st Period Group 1Group 5 Group 2Group 6 Group 3Group 7 Group 4Group 8

2 nd Period Group 1Group 5 Group 2Group 6 Group 3Group 7 Group 4Group 8

4th Period Group 1Group 6 Group 2Group 7 Group 3Group 8 Group 4Group 9 Group 5Group 10

5th Period Group 1Group 6 Group 2Group 7 Group 3Group 8 Group 4Group 9 Group 5Group 10

Sharing Poster 20 Minutes One person from each team will get up and travel to another group in the room. You will check the matches from that group, and you will explain why you agree or disagree. Then return to your own team and decide whether you need to make any changes.

Whole Class Discussion Be prepared to discuss your strategies for matching the cards!!!

Final Assessment- 25 pts. You will use the remarks written on your original assessment combined with what you have learned from the task to completed the Boy Bands assessment.
