How can we tackle discrimination and prejudice in our community? Inclusion and Engagement Team Mohammed Mossadaq

What we will cover today What is discrimination? What have we done in the UK? What are we doing now in Hampshire? How can we work together?

What is discrimination? Some discrimination is actually quite useful………. Left Right

Unfair discrimination is illegal…………… So we have to get the balance right……

“One size fits all”…………… …………….“putting people in boxes”

What have we done about it here in the UK?

….and things do change…….

…….slowly

Such as libraries……

And the law……………..

What we have to do in Hampshire Decision makers need to show “due regard” for the need to: Eliminate prohibited conduct –find it and get rid of it Advance equality of opportunity –Create opportunities Foster good relations between groups –Help people get to know each other

Equality Impact Assessments How will this decision affect people?

So, how do we work together?

Over to you….
