Moving On Next steps towards your future…

It’s time to think about next year We need to know what you want to do.

Help is at hand… At college we call this help to decide what you want to do next Information, Advice and Guidance or IAG. It’s a follow-on from the help you had at school: Options - Year 8/9 Career planning - Year 10 College interviews - Year 11 IAG and Moving On - NOW ……

What are your choices? Stay at college Apprenticeships - job with training Employment – Full Time/Part Time Higher Education – Degrees on Your Doorstep

English and Maths – they’re essential Whatever you choose to do next and into the future you will need strong English and Maths skills and qualifications. If you have achieved a C grade in English and/or Maths you will continue to develop your skills as part of your Programme of Study. If you have not yet achieved a C grade in either of these subjects at GCSE you will continue to work towards these grades at college: 1. If you have a D grade in either subject, you will re-take your GCSE to achieve a Grade C. 2. If you have an E grade you will take a Level 2 Functional Skills qualification. 3. If you have an F grade or below you will take a Level 1 Functional Skills qualification.

Staying at College You could: complete your current course complete your work experience move on to the next level in current area possibly change direction onto another course

Moving on within college What will you need to move on in college? Complete current course and work experience Confirm your choices with your Learner Mentor LMs will write a reference to include the following; ◦ Good attendance and punctuality ◦ Excellent attitude and motivation ◦ Effective in meeting targets Plus any course specific requirements Interview and Conditional Offer Show interest and commitment to progressing

Employment/Apprenticeships/ Volunteering/Work Placements Things to think about: Is there work in your chosen profession? Be realistic Research NOW before deciding to leave. Advantages of studying at University Centre Harlow, which is a part of Anglia Ruskin University, could be: 1. You don’t have to leave home 2. You can keep any part time work that you currently have 3. You can stay in touch with your friends 4. What happens next? Your Learner Mentor will let you know when it is time to complete your moving on application. This will be on line and you will be given specific instructions and support. If you decide to apply for a different course you will be interviewed by the team to explore your interest and enthusiasm. If you decide to enrol for the next level you will have a short interview with the team to prove your commitment. You will then need to enrol.

Plan, Plan, Plan Don’t forget to plan your career route. Think about your skills and how they match the job. If you need to develop your skills ACT NOW. Keep developing your skills in Maths and English. Don’t give up trying to improve. GOOD LUCK FOR THE FUTURE!
