Classifications of Government  Autocracy – Rule by one  Oldest/most common form  Power through inheritance or force  Totalitarian dictatorship – Ideas of a single leader glorified  Hitler’s Nazi Germany; Stalin’s Soviet union

Assignment: What is so Basic?  Create a diagram that illustrates the differences between three main of the main types of government (democracy, autocracy, oligarchy, monarchy, communist)  Must have at least one image for each. What image comes to mind when you think of this government?  Must tell what your picture is and justify why it represents this form of government.

Assignment: What is so basic?  Ex. Picture of an American Idol set represents a democracy because the power of who is voted off the show is in the hands of the people.
