Contributions to the GAP analysis (Deliverable 2) ITU FG Audio Conference meeting 22 October 2008 Spryros Tombros, Keletron Ltd, Greece 6/25/20161
List of Topics Our thoughts about gaps in communication standards for the realisation of ICT-enable energy saving applications. 6/25/20162AIM Consortium Proprietary
Preliminary Gap analysis (1/2) In the AIM project we have performed thourough analysis of existing ICT with the following results: There is no need to engineer new physical communication standards for the realisation of communications within the home environment: – Short range wireless interfaces – PLC – Wireless physical interfaces Are adequate in terms of BW and relevance for hosting energy saving applications 6/25/20163AIM Consortium Proprietary
Preliminary Gap analysis (2/2) Applications realisation is mainly hindered by application / service level factors, e.g.: Absence of dedicated protocols for communicating : – energy consumption figures (e.g. power consumption of white goods). – Appliance type. – Control primitives (e.g. mode switching commands, switch off/on commands). Absence of higher layer functions: – Protocols that support plug n’ play operations (e.g. UPnP fields allowing identification of appliances and their energy profile). – High level APIs that would allow coordination of appliances energy consumption in the context of user applications, through implementation of remote control on the appliances internal functions.
