Control related Works during 2008

Control related  Migration from Wizcon to PcVue for cooling systems  Creation of a remote alarm monitoring system  For installations awaiting resources for SCADA migration, creation of a tool to retrieve the local Touch Panel functionalities through the network (ie ISOLDE ventilation)  Fast process logging systems for interlocks (used for diagnostics)  Improvement of ventilation process through simulation of equipment and psychometric properties  Optimization of processes avoiding:  Reducing transients  Minimizing energy consumption Ventilation in 359  Replacement of old logic level switches by PLC generated signals  Alarm transmission infrastructure through OPC servers: now CV alarm transmission is PLC independent  Landis in Meyrin ventilation systems have been connected to the technical network  CNGS: modification of the control part due to radiation problems Works during 2008

SPARE PARTS  In 2008, significant increase of information related to spare parts:  CERN has increased the information available in D7i and in other databases for pumps and Hazemeyer cubicles  Contractors trace the requests in e-log and statistics and reports can be easily retrieved  Items with long procurement delays and low cost have been identified and placed in stock  Purchasing of materials for preventive maintenance has been better anticipated Spare parts 2008

SPARE PARTS Spare parts 2008

SPARE PARTS  In 2009, continue with the same policy keeping in mind the main constraints: budget, storage area and manpower. Spare parts 2009

CONCLUSIONS   Consolidation projects are essential to:   maintain existing CV installations   increase reliability of services to CERN users   A small proportion of CV resources is still dedicated to new projects and can’t be neglected   Operation and maintenance sections in charge of daily tasks (including shutdown preventive maintenance) are a key factor to ensure trouble free service   Spare parts is also a key issue: information and storage area are at present two areas to improve
