CV Activities for PSB-LIU POPS-B (new MPS for the PSB-LIU) B 245 PSB Demi water cooling plant Stefano Moccia, EN-CV Meeting 07/03/16

Cooling and Ventilation User requirements well defined for CV (EDMS and EDMS ); demi water cooling power about 500 kW; ventilation cooling power about 130 kW; 245 building under construction; CV General integration is almost finished; AHUs for Converter Hall (redundancy) Cooling tower N+1 redundancy for fans VRV Unit for offices and technical rooms Demi water pumping station. 2 Separate circuits (copper and aluminum) N+1 redundancy for pumps POPS-B (new MPS for the PSB-LIU) B 245

Planning MS-4182 dispatched 3 weeks ago; IT-4182 under preparation; to be dispatched beginning of May 2016; Contract to be awarded at FC September 2016; CV installation to start by January 2017; Cooling and HVAC commissioned by August POPS-B (new MPS for the PSB-LIU) B Budget EVM

PSB Demi water cooling plant Primary water (Bat. 237) Old cooling towers (increased legionella risks), pumping equipment and hydraulic accessories to be replaced; Demineralized water (Bat. 237) For radioprotection constraints, the surface premises circuit shall be separated from the tunnel circuit (Main ring, Injection and Transfer regions, TT2); To be defined if it’ ll be moved to PS cooling. Removal of unused pipes in the tunnel. New magnets increased pressure drop -> the tunnel circuit pressure rating to be increased from PN16 to PN25 Upgrade of accessories in Bat. 361; New piping distribution in Bat. 361 (BRF2 - BAT) for new Power Converters; Maybe a dedicated ventilation system for end 2016 (transformers room); Waiting for confirmation that the C16-RF cavity (on drinking water today) could be included in the global cooling system; otherwise a dedicated station. Demi water cooling skid to be installed at Bat. 367 for the dummy load magnets (after summer 2016); The consolidation plan includes also the PSB ventilation and chilled water production plant refurbishment. Consolidation About 2 MCHF PSB-LIU About 750 kCHF Cooling needs are understood. A bit of fine tuning still necessary.

Planning Considering the amount of work foreseen in PSB area for LS2 (including ventilation and chilled water production consolidation, CV plans the installation of the primary water system (new towers on top of Bat. 141 or 269 plus some piping) before the start of LS2. It is also under study the possibility to change the air diffusers in the tunnel during the YETSs. No other ventilation and chilled water production advance work possible before LS2. All material procurement done before LS2 start. Streamlined purchasing process with blanket order contracts (starting beginning of 2017) for large cooling and ventilation installations. To be used heavily for LS2 projects. No cooling nor mechanical ventilation for at least 6 months from LS2 start. PSB-LIU Demi water cooling plant EVM 2016 Budget

Consolidation of PSB ventilation No major differences in the estimated heat loads with respect to the present situation. Existing system to be refurbished keeping the same working parameters as now. New smoke extraction system Tunnel (about 300 kW, air supply 20° C )  dismantling of the old air diffusers in the tunnel.  Refurbishment of two air handling units (each one with 32’000 m 3 /h for the supply air with a renewal of fresh air of 3’000 m 3 /h and 35’500 m 3 /h extracted air); Surface system (500 kW, air supply temperature 20 o C):  Installation of two new handling units (each one with 63’000 m 3 /h for the supply air with a renewal of fresh air of 6’000 m 3 /h and 58’000 m 3 /h extracted air); Electrical and controls: complete overhaul of the electrical power and control system in order to meet the present Cern standards on the matter. Renewal of all the instrumentation and regulation valves according to the present Cern standards. Uncertainty on the cost is given by the presence of asbestos (recently confirmed by the HSE expert. It is not foreseen to change any existing ducts. At least 6 months for this activity. No advance work will be possible before start of LS2. Overlap with other activities in the same area (i.e. PSB cooling or chilled water) still to be investigated. Total estimated cost : 3.5 MCHF One of the 4 AHU’s to refurbished
