Put Away Your Toys Kids of the Civil War

Kids 20% – 30% of all soldiers were under ,000 – 420,000 under age fighters.

Requirements Must be 18 for combat positions. Could be under age for musician posts; drummers or bugle players.

Support Many of the boys ran away from home. Others were brought to sign up by their parents. They too were looking for adventure.

Leftovers Many of the boys could not fit into their uniforms and clothing. Were forced to search the battlefield and take from other dead soldiers.

Camp Life Young soldiers fell under constant harassment and hazing from older soldiers. Beat up, forced to sleep outside, had food and supplies stolen.

Fears of Children Missed home Feared Death Feared loss of friends

Were not immune to the tragedies of war.
