Check for leaks by Putting coloring in toilet tanks. Checking for leaky faucets. Recording water meter when the school is closed and next morning before it opens. It is very important that students know where the master water shut off valve is located.

Ways to reduce water consumption We plan to replace the faucets in teachers toilets with automatic faucets. Put balloons filled with water ( approximately 1,5 liters ) in toilet tanks.

Students activities Creating an awareness of the need of water conservation among the school community. For example water club could find a movie or make a video. Writing a water conservation guide and distributing to other students, teachers and parents. Designing bookmarks with different tips for water saving.

Monitoring water use according to the following steps : Take two measurements every month. Calculate the average water consumption per month. Make diagrams to compare the consumption from month to month taking into account the external temperature. At the end of the program the students must compare the diagrams to check if the saving water plans were effective.

Experiment How much water does a leaking faucet waste ; We take three empty bottles 500 ml and we let a faucet dripping. We record the time that it takes each bottle to be full. The students have to calculate the waste of water during a day, week and a month.
