“The Allegory of the Cave” by Plato from The Republic Who is Plato? Define Allegory

LEVELS OF QUESTIONING  LEVEL ONE: Define Describe Identify List Name Observe Recite Scan  LEVEL THREE: Apply Evaluate Hypothesize Imagine Judge Predict Speculate  LEVEL TWO: Analyze Compare Contrast Group Infer Sequence Synthesize

While listening...  Using your scrap piece of paper you need to write 6 questions about the “Allegory of the Cave”. Two questions from each category

My Questions  Describe what the cave looks like?  Who is controlling the puppets in our society?  What images are shown to us by the “puppet masters” today in our society?

Discussion Questions  Who is controlling the puppets in our society?  What images are shown to us by the “puppet masters” today in our society? About Government? About Security? About Health Care? Any others?

A few more Questions  How can we “let go of our chains” and “leave the cave”?  Does this make us good citizens of the world?

Homework  You need to ask three people the following questions and record all their answers:  One must be over the age of 21  Another must be a peer (not in one of my classes)  The third is your preference. Maybe another teacher? Define “Citizenship” What makes a person a good citizen?
