Private schools discount tuition significantly. In Indiana there are 31 private, nonprofit colleges and universities. 88% of ICI undergrads received on average - Institutional grant $13,434. State Grant 4,744. Federal Grant 2,951. Total $21,129. Students at private schools - average family income is $3500 less than peers at public 4 year schools Advantages to private schools?

ICI /NACE research Students at Indiana private colleges are nearly twice as likely to graduate in four years as their peers at public institutions. For minority students the graduation advantage is even greater, students at ICI campuses are 2.5 times as likely to graduate in 4 years. Tuition and foregone wages.

Avg starting salary new grads Liberal Arts$36,824 Nursing $51,100 Business $51,541 Engineering$60,639 This and other research may be found at: icindiana.org/research/chartproject.aspicindiana.org/research/chartproject.asp and through NACE – National Association of Colleges and Employers Disadvantages to private schools?

Students graduating from private schools do have slightly more debt. Avg. for 4 year public$24,487with 60% graduating with debt Avg. for ICI schools$26,588 with 70% graduating with debt. Difference$ 2,101 Determine your student’s cost ---

You can readily find the cost of attendance. All schools are required to have a Net Price Calculator on line. A quick and easy way of estimating costs is to go to - there is a Net Price tab that breaks down the average Net Price of a school based on income – 5 levels.

Average net price by Income Sticker Price $40,792 $0 – $30,000$15,071 $30,001 – $48,000$16,184 $48,001 – $75,000$19,274 $75,001 – $110,000$21,773 $110,001 plus$25,663

In your college search: Never rule out a school because of “sticker price”; rather, 1. Apply to all schools that have your academic program, your values, and that seem to fit you, then 2. Apply for scholarships and file the FAFSA to determine your “net price”.
