Independent Research & Intern Mentor G/T Research Program By: Shannon Farley
INTERN MENTOR
Choose an area of interest Find a Mentor (60% of students already know who they want to work with, but if you are not sure Mr. Eckert will help you out!) Most students leave during 6 th period every day 1 credit = and average of 5 hours per week Students MUST provide their own transportation
WORKING WITH YOUR MENTOR In IM the student must also pick a topic to research throughout the year. Their mentor also has them work on projects over the course of the school year. For this final project they must present what they have done all year as well as writing a research paper. Over the years students have worked with: Johns Hopkins, NASA, Elementary Schools, ect.

MY RESARCH: how does chronic illness effect young adults and academic performance?
SOURCES INCLUDE Medical Associations Medical Journals Government Associations
THINGS I HAVE LEANRED (so far) All school systems in the state of MD MUST have a program in place for students who are absent from school due to a medical issue. Teachers are more concerned about not knowing how to handle the student in class, than the problem of missing school. There is not a clear way to define chronic illness yet.
