MTPS: 1. Types of Patrols; and 2. Tasks of Patrols.

Review What are the aims of patrolling? To gain and maintain the initiative; To gain information; To deny information to the enemy; To harass the enemy; To provide security; and To provide protection.

Types of Patrols Patrols are classified as being: Reconnaissance Patrols; Fighting Patrols; and Standing Patrols.

Confirmation What are the types of patrols? Reconnaissance; Fighting; and Standing Patrols.

Patrol Tasks... Patrols with reconnaissance tasks obtain information by conducting: Point reconnaissance or surveillance of a point target or small area; Area reconnaissance or surveillance of an extended target or area; and Route reconnaissance, which is a type of area reconnaissance where specific points along a designated route are reconnoitered.

Patrol Tasks... Definition: A stay behind patrol is a refinement of a reconnaissance patrol and does not refer to the primary mission or task of a patrol.

Patrol Tasks Fighting patrols aid the combat effort by conducting a variety of tasks: Raids to destroy or capture personnel or equipment, destroy installations or liberate personnel; Ambush of enemy patrols, carrying parties, wire repair teams, convoys and foot columns; Establishing or maintaining contact or both, with friendly or enemy forces; Providing security by preventing or detecting infiltration and preventing surprise and ambush; Providing protection for technical specialists by preventing enemy from interfering with their task; and Destroying vehicles in a defensive position or leaguer.
