Law Enforcement The Community Who are the Law Enforcement in your community? What are their duties/purpose? How can they be identified?

Police officers play a central role in the law enforcement system. They monitor criminal activity, take part in community patrols, respond to emergency calls, issue tickets, make arrests, investigate crimes and testify in court as needed. Raleigh Police Department

Sheriff’s departments usually serve as the highest law enforcement organization within a county, although in larger jurisdictions law enforcement services are shared with metro police departments. In many rural areas where towns may be unincorporated or lack independent police forces, the sheriff’s office manages most or all of the law enforcement services. Wake County Sheriff Department

North Carolina Highway Patrol The main responsibility of the highway patrol is to monitor and enforce safety on state and federal highways. This can involve checking the speed of vehicles, responding to accidents and emergencies, and helping local law enforcement. Highway patrol officers are state-level employees.

The Similarities of Police and Citizens Although the police job is to keep the community safe, you as a citizen play a huge role in that task. It is citizens who often help police solve crimes. Through eyewitness encounter, neighborhood watch, by sharing information. This is why you play an important part in the team of Law Enforcement and citizens.

Good Citizen in the Community It is very important that we work as a team. Police Motto is Serve and Protect. Is this also the Motto of you as a citizen. We all play an important part of keeping each other safe through teamwork, respect and the choices that we make.

Review List the different Law Enforcement Agencies your community and their role? What does LEADER stand for? What does TRC stand for? What is the roller coaster of life? What are the similarities of Law Enforcement and Citizens?

Homework Assignment Interview your parent or a trusted adult to see if they can list the different types of Law Enforcement in the community.
