 John Muir  One of the first contributor to conserving national parks  Theodore Roosevelt  President that created the most National Parks and Monuments  Stephen Mather  Crusaded to create a National Park system where the parks worked together instead of separate parks working on their own

 October 1, 1890 Yosemite National park is created  March 2, 1899 Mount Rainier first park created from National forest  January 11, 1908 Roosevelt declares Grand Canyon a National Monument  1926 Congress creates Great Smokey Mountains National Park  1955 Mission 66 created to help revamp parks

Lost Dutchman  Fought over for many years  Had lots of GOLD AU  Jacob Walz created a fake map to lead people away from where the gold really was.  The map is still sold today

Lost Dutchman how it came to be  Started out as flat  Shield Volcanos were formed  Dacite domes  Au weather out of the granite

Lost Dutchman Why important  A look into history  Preserves natural habitat  Protects animals  Provides jobs for many  Provides a place to get back to nature

 December 1, 1978 President Jimmy Carter used Antiquities Act to protect the Fjords  The town of Seward closest to the land hated it because it took away their main source of income  December 2, 1980 Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act becomes law  5 years later Seward is asking for the park to be expanded  Glaciers

 Shoreline and Glaciers  Ocean water now fills long, steep sided, glacier carved valleys  Subduction zone is causes the Kenai Mountains to slip into the sea  Many animals make this their home and spawning area  The combination of both Shoreline and Glaciers makes this a unique habitat for animals that I would kill to study

 Founded the Sierria club  Helped Roosevelt start the movement to start National parks  The reason why we have Yosemite

We have all these beautiful parks because of John Muir

What is the value of State and National Parks?  The value of State and National Parks are limitless. Without them a number of animals and plants would be extinct. Many small towns would have died. For me the most important value is that I wouldn’t be able to see Nature they way it was 100 years ago.
