Arachnid Characteristics Have 2 segments-a head/chest section and an abdomen Have 8 legs Almost all are carnivorous, they feed on the pre- digested bodies of insects and other small animals Several groups are venomous - they secrete venom from specialized glands to kill prey or enemies. Some are parasites, which can be carriers of disease

Web Spinning Spiders have silk spinning glands called spinnerets, at the tip of their abdomen Not all arachnids spin webs. Webs get dirty and torn, so lots of spiders make a new one every day. They don't waste the old one, though--they roll it up into a ball and eat it!
