State of Christianity - ~1500 AD Until 1500, all Christians are "Catholics" o Some exceptions (i.e. Eastern Orthodox in Russia) ~ Protestant Reformation o Martin Luther, John Calvin and others o Protestant Churches break away from Catholic church

Differences Between Catholic and Protestant Catholic Pope is head of the church Pope appoints Bishops to head the church in each country Pope interprets the Bible People don't read the Bible themselves Protestant Pope has no authority Each church has its own leaders o In England - the King o In Scotland, individual pastors People read the Bible and interpret it for themselves
