MY PRAYER PRESENTATION By Caitlin Daly - Year Three

ST SEBASTIAN I have chosen to talk about St Sebastian.

St Sebastian is our Class Saint. He is also the Patron Saint of Sports.

The Feast day of St Sebastian is 20 th of January.

He is the Patron Saints of Sports because of his physical endurance and his energetic way of defending the faith.

St Sebastian is also Patron to all Soldiers. He was an Officer of the Imperial Roman Army and Captain of the Guard.

He is said to have healed the wife of a fellow soldier by making the Sign of the Cross over her. He converted many soldiers to Christianity.

For being a Christian he was tied to a tree shot with arrows and left for dead. He survived with the help of Saint Irene. But later the Emperor had him beaten to death.

ST SEBASTIAN AND THE BLACK DEATH In the 14 th century people thought that the plague in their villages was like being shot by an army of natures archers. So they prayed to St Sebastian because of his association with archery.

I chose to talk about Saint Sebastian because of his relevance to our class and because I love gymnastics. I think everyone should have the chance to play sports fairly and safely so it can be enjoyed by all.

This is the prayer that I have written to St Sebastian…

Please watch over the boys and girls when they do sports that they enjoy or new sports that they are trying. Make sure that everyone always competes fairly and with practise and hard work get better over time. Help everyone to enjoy sports and to see the many benefits that it brings. Amen

Thank you for listening.
