Presentation transcript:

Software for electronic scorekeeping of volleyball matches, developed and distributed by: Developed for the rules of NCAA Men For official use in competition effective January 2011

e-Scoresheet technical requirements The program e-Scoresheet runs on Windows based desktop or laptop. The minimum requirements for a scoring sessions are: Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 Operating System; Pentium III processor or higher, Ram 512 MB or higher; Video Board 128MB with dual monitor (suggested); Flash Drive 128MB or higher Laser or Ink-jet printer External Monitor (optional) Wireless connection (optional) The flash drive is plugged-in throughout the match is necessary to back-up all the data entered; in case of PC failures, it will be easy to restore the scoring from the last point scored.

E-Scoresheet in Europe This software is officially adopted by CEV (Confédération Européenne de Volleyball) for scorekeeping all matches organized by CEV Between the 2008/2009 and 2009/10 seasons, more than 2,000 matches have been scored with e-Scoresheet Less than 10 scoring mistakes have been reported

e-Scoresheet in USA After the great success achieved in Europe, Data Project has improved its e-Scoresheet, adapting it to the rules used in the U.S., where volleyball scoring differs from FIVB regulations and there are specific differences between the Men’s and Women’s game. In June 2010, the NCAA Men’s Committee approved the use of electronic score sheets as an acceptable method of keeping score in the men’s game. After 2 years of testing e-Scoresheet is the only software available that meets the specific requirements this software must have. The Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association adopted e-Scoresheet league wide beginning in January The total number of teams who have committed to using e-Scoresheet stands at 22 and includes teams from all Automatic Qualifying Conferences and Divisions of play.

Why use e-Scoresheet There are several reasons why e-Scoresheet should be adopted by NCAA Member Institutions and Conferences for Volleyball: Easy to train new users: the program easily completes the steps needed to fill- out the scoresheet and prepare for scoring the match The program allows one operator to manage match scoring and libero tracking simultaneously; by using the visible scoreboard operator as a spotter scorer’s table staff can be reduced to 2 people Match schedule and rosters can be input in advance and uploaded to a remote database available to download prior to the match improving pre-match setup There is a time-coded history of events to help resolve any scoring and lineup issues It avoids the handwriting mistakes and subsequent corrections: the program can produce both printed and PDF versions of the scoresheets making them easy to read, archive and send to others.

When you arrive When you arrive at a venue and find e-Scoresheet instead of a paper scoresheet: Your role as a scorekeeper does not change, but the methods you use to complete your responsibilities are modified. As the scorekeeper you will want to verify that in addition to the PC with e- Scoresheet software installed, you also have the following items: Mouse (you can use a touchpad or tablet, but the interface is designed for a mouse) Flashdrive (128MB minimum capacity) Note: without the flashdrive and the backup option enabled the match is not Official as the safeguards are disabled. I also recommend on the flashdrive the most recent setup of e-Scoresheet be saved.

Click to run the software update prior the setup of a new match… … and it will be automatically searched on the remote server e-Scoresheet is a constantly evolving tool: it is essential to check for updates

Click to create a new match Active competition Ready to start with a new match!

Check to see if the roster is present, if not you need to create a team before beginning match setup Click to verify if teams rosters are already preloaded or saved Prior to opening a new match!

Some data have to be entered manually 1 st step: complete the match notes preparation Some data are already entered and not modifiable

Set-up a match with e-Scoresheet e-Scoresheet follows the set-up of the match step by step: this infomation can be input by the scorekeeper in a similar manner to the traditional methods If the players rosters have been already entered before the match, they can be downloaded from the e-Scoresheet remote database; the scorekeeper would only need to select the players who are present to participate in the match and check the jersey numbers are correct

2 nd step: check the players’ lists Click to check the players’ lists

2nd step: check the players’ lists Select the players of the match and add them to the match list or enter new players not present in the database verify the name and jersey numbers and enter coaches and staff members manually

3 rd step: to set the starting info After the Coin-toss both the team sides and First Serve can be set Line-ups have to be entered

Set-up a match with e-Scoresheet After verifying the rosters e-Scoresheet asks which team will serve first and the position on the teams on the court. Type the jersey number, double click in service order or Drag and drop the players onto their starting position and e-Scoresheet will place them on the court, ready to start the match. Both Captain and Libero are also designated easily.

4 th step: enter the Line-ups Double click or drag & drop on the players to input the starting line- up, then designate Captain and Libero Line-ups have to be entered

5 th step: set the final procedures before the match start Some buttons are blinking to advise about the next step to run Enter the Liberos if they are playing (see next page) Serve can already be assigned Finally, click here to start the set (see next page)

Data Video Scout Option Enabling “Data Video option” allows the scorer to record all the information needed for a coach to create rotation analysis using Data Video software after the match. The scorer just needs to identify the setters for both teams after the lineups are entered.

6 th step: set the final procedures before the match start Select the player replaced by the libero for both teams Set start time and begin…

Automatic Back Up option Before the match is started, the Automatic Back Up must be enabled The Back Up option allows saving all the information recorded, point by point, so that the Scoresheet can immediately be restored in case of PC problems (freezing, loss of power, etc.)

Start a match with e-Scoresheet Now e-Scoresheet is almost ready to start scoring the match. Select if the libero will enter the court the and e-Scoresheet will show the possible replacements and then be ready to start scorekeeping.

Scoring with e-Scoresheet The graphic layout of e-Scoresheet is very intuitive: list of the players on court, players on bench; both captains and liberos are higlighted in different colors for easy identification Clicking the Start Set button, the official scoring starts at the specified time.

Standard match procedure Every mistake can be corrected clicking on Undo button Follow the rally clicking on the related “Assign Point” button and… …score, rotations, players on court are automatically displayed on the screen When using Data Video Scout Option you will be prompted to “Start Rally”

Scoring with e-Scoresheet Libero tracking can be managed by e-Scoresheet automatically: it suggests replacing the player who just served with libero according to the previous libero replacements (libero with middle-blocker), but it can also manage entering and exiting the libero manually should these replacements be necessary.

Substitutions procedure Select the player exiting and the player entering and confirm Click on Substitution button double-click on player in the list On Court or Drag and Drop player On Bench on the position on the court

Scoring with e-Scoresheet The subtitutions can be easily recorded on e-Scoresheet: they can be initiated by either clicking on the Substitution button or clicking on the name of the player entering or exiting the court. An additional control message is displayed to verify the information and prevent mistakes

Scoring with e-Scoresheet It is possible to correct any potential mistake by clicking the UNDO button Or to make specific manual changes

An Auto-Restore Message will appear, click next… If the unthinkable happens… If the PC is damaged or the program crashes, insert the backup flashdrive and restart or install and launch e- Scoresheet. Click Restore E-Scoresheet restores to the last recorded event before the failure

e-Scoresheet additional features Through e-Scoresheet it is possible to set- up a live-score pop-up on the internet with constant scoring updates It is also possible to record the beginning and the end of each rally and allow the scoring file to be synchronized with a video in Data_Video software. Users can easily analyze videos since the servers, points and rotations are automatically tracked by e- Scoresheet.

e-Scoresheet & Data Video e-Scoresheet can automatically create a time-coded file that can be successively synchronized to any video file played into Data Video software, either Essential or Professional version. In fact, anytime the scorer clicks in the e-Scoresheet, the program will set the time in which the rally starts and ends; also the rotations will be automatically stored in the scoring file. The subsequent synchronization between the video and the file allows for a basic rotation video analysis.
