What we want to achieve in the ministry of CFC SvFL An inviting and vibrant community of men involved in evangelization & social ministries; a “transition ministry” for bachelors and widowers.
Specific Objectives The program aims to form parish-based community of migrants’ families to help them cope with the realities of migration and its consequences on the family and community life.
By joining this community, the migrant family may be able: To be more aware of personal feelings and needs with regard to their situation as a part of a migrant family; To realize there are others similarly situated, to join in community with them, be able to express and share these feelings with one another; To allow each person to deepen spiritual, moral and social personal strengths for coping with feelings/problems; To bring to focus how Christian spiritual values can help them cope; To understand the importance of family life in accordance with the Church teachings amidst the realities of migration; To help them create and implement programs that will answer their own needs and; To make them more active in the parish.
TOPICS FOR INITIAL ASSEMBLIES These topics have been chosen for appropriateness to the lives of the families of migrant workers: PART I. THE FAMILY DIMENSION ORIENTATION SESSION Who are we ECMI / (CFC-FFL) What do we want to do with this program. ECMI, CFCFFL, objectives, core values and mission statement Short overview of the Migrant Workers Left Behind Family Program CONSEQUENCES OF MIGRATION IN MY FAMILY Difficulties encountered in the families of migrant workers. How can we start to cope with them? Those left behind: spouse, children – effects of the dysfunctional family unit. Difficulties encountered by migrant: stark reality of hardship and financial scarcity. Case study, Workshop MY FAMILY The Importance of the Family: The family is the basic unit of society. It is the means by which our values and culture are transmitted to our children. As families of migrant workers, we have to work harder and more deliberately to make our families work. The Importance of Communication in the Family Communication is a process in all relationships. FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT FOR THE FAMILY To introduce to the participants the Christian view of money. To make them realize that God wants His people to have order in their finances. Case study, Workshop
PART II: THE INDIVIDUAL DIMENSION MY DIGNITY AS A SON AND DAUGHTER OF GOD Each person’s worth and dignity comes from being created in the image and likeness of God, and being a son/daughter of God, and not from the circumstances / situation of life. We need to see ourselves and one another in our wholeness: not only physical beings, but also intellectual, emotional, social, and most importantly spiritual beings. We need to go beyond the material world. It is God who gives meaning and wholeness to our personhood. SOLO PARENTING God has given us the task of being guardian and provider of our children, and being the nurturer and caregiver. The family is a place to transmit wisdom and values of life. The home is the place to transmit Christian values. EMPOWERMENT OF THOSE LEFT BEHIND (Spouse / Children) The left behind spouse should feel the need to grow in their relationship with God, and to have a community to support them as families of migrant workers. We need companionship with others who share similar situation and values with us. We need a support environment, where we can relate with brothers and sisters in Christ. We need to do things together – pray and worship in the liturgy, in meetings, for teaching, formation and pastoral care. We need a place where new patterns of relationships can develop.
