Transportation as a Health Issue (Relationship of community planning, transportation and health)

Benefits of Effort to DOT Awareness among others of our resources and plans. Awareness of Commitments - Advocates know of our stated ped commitment – can turn projects around. More encouragement – Need more pedal pushers and foot promoters for a better foothold. Smarter and more savvy citizenry – What works and what does not. Improved Partnerships and Network.

Raise Awareness of Existence of Bicycle and Pedestrian Plans

Partnership Collaboration Productive and Extensive Agency and Advocates Improved Networking

Example of Education - Need for Bike Accommodations on Major Streets

Another Example - Need to “bridge” barriers.

Community Planning – Importance to Transportation Mitigate impacts of our highways as barriers In larger communities – provide more opportunities with grid and with balanced land uses Interconnected neighborhoods provide a transportation means for younger riders and walkers – another system.
