The 1920’s – A Decade of Transition, Contradiction and Conflict

 The Red Scare:  What was the “red scare” of ?  Why did the “red scare” occur?  Identify some of the “red scare’s” main characters.  Summarize the perceived threat of Communism in America during the 1920’s

 The Resurgence of the Ku Klux Klan  Why did the KKK enjoy a resurgence in popularity during the 1920’s?  Who did the KKK target during the 1920’s  What was the Klan’s greatest “fear” during the 20’s?

 The Rise of Nativism and Anti-Foreignerism  Identify some immigration legislation of the 20’s.  What motivated Americans to limit immigration during the 20’s?  Why was there such a fear of foreigners during this decade?

 The 19 th Amendment: PROHIBITION  What were the motives behind the prohibition movement?  Who were its supporters and opponents?  What impact did prohibition have on society in the 20’s?  Provide examples of prohibition’s impact.
