* Poverty: poor people who do not have enough in order to live * 45 million people in poverty in America * Poverty Rate: The percentage of people that are in poverty 15%

* Poverty Level: * The amount of money that you need to not be in poverty.

* The last major depression in America. It lasted 8-10 years * 25% unemployment rate

* The only president to be elected FOUR times. * Amendment 22 (you cannot be elected president more than 2 times). * He was president during the great depression and during WWII

* Government programs that FDR implemented during the 1930s in order to help during the great depression. * If you needed a job the government would give you a temporary job

* Four major things: * 1. Food * 2. Shelter * 3. medical * 4. Education The government helps poor people

* A type of transfer payment. The money goes to help old people * When you are young you pay to take care of the elderly * At age 62 you can start drawing social security * At age 65 you can get full benefits
