IMPERATIVES STUDY! BE QUIET! DON’T TALK! DON’T BRING THE PHONE! DON’T TALK TO YOUR PARTNER! DON’T TALK IN THE LIBRARY! DO YOUR HOMEWORK! DON’T SMOKE DONT EAT THESE ARE ALL ORDERS! AFFIRMATIVE NEGATIVE AFFIRMATIVE

For these things you use the imperative form of the verbs. It’s the only tense that can be used without using a subjects. – OPEN THE DOOR – CLOSE THE BOOKS, PLEASE You just need the infinitive form f the verb (if it is an affirmative order) or DON’T +Infinitive ( if the order is negative) – LISTEN! – DON’T SPEAK!

Imperatives are not only used to give orders, you can use them… – to give directions Go straight on! / Turn left – To give warnings Don’t run too fast / Be careful! – To make offers Take a seat / Make a coffee – With some expressions Have a nice day!
