More mistakes Taking on too much Thriving on being busy Multitasking Not taking breaks Ineffectively scheduling tasks
Strategy 1: Using a calendar Get out your calendar/planner You can use a planner, once you get your laptop, you can use online calendar if you prefer. This is REQUIRED. There will be planner checks at points during the semester. Write down assignments- Every due date you know at this time. Including homework for tonight.
Strategy 2: Blocks of study time and breaks Find a set of time you can put aside each day to study/do homework. Make it the same time each week, set at least 4 blocks. Write down: At least 1 good time a week where you can set aside time to study. Try it.
Strategy 3: Dedicated study space This will help improve your ability to focus and will help you remember information better. This space is a space you should be able to be alone and free to focus on studying/homework. Should be free from interruptions. This room/space should be quiet and decrease distractions.
Strategy 4: Weekly reviews Review your work/notes every week Will decrease chances of having to cram for tests Will improve memory of what you learned this week Will allow you to find areas you need more help in or questions you have about a topic.
Strategy 5: Get something done! Just START your work. (projects, studying, papers) Will help you realize what is required of the assignment/project/paper and how much you’ll have to do to accomplish your task Gives a better picture of the details of the assignment Gives you time to edit/develop later
Strategy 6: Identify resources to help you TeachersPeersBooksWebsites
Strategy 7: Review notes and readings before class Shows your teacher you are prepared to learn Reminds you of questions you may want to ask the teacher Helps you remember what you learned yesterday Will help you have a better understanding of what is being taught in class that day
Strategy 8: Review notes after class Do this as soon as you get time! Either right after class or as soon as you get home. You forget the most information in the first 24 hours after learning it. Reviewing the information helps you retain more information.
Pick 2 strategies. Decide how you can implement these into your study habits/day to day life. Write them down, along with a paragraph/list telling how. This is due at the end of class.
