WELCOME BACK FROM BREAK YOU WILL NEED TO BE SEATED, WITH ALL YOUR MATERIALS In case your forgot, your materials are: -pencil (sharpened) -journal -a respectful attitude -and anything else that helps you be successful!

REMINDERS… Lunch Tutorials will be available this semester only on Mondays- Wednesdays. Take advantage of the district grading policy. #TitanPride vs. referrals

LEARNING TARGET: We will discuss the expectations, rules and routines for this semester. I will be productive today through completing my language exercise. I will also show my thinking through my language exercise, demonstrating my process of elimination. I will also create an outline for an essay that is due this Friday for a summative grade.

COLLABORATIVE ACTIVITY (15 MINUTES) Each table group has a sheet of paper. Create and fill in this chart with your peers. Each person has to contribute. Beside what you write, put your initials down so you can receive credit. Rule in classWhat it looks like… What it sounds like… What it feels like…

LANGUAGE EXERCISE (10-15 MINUTES) You will receive a sheet of paper for you to execute your test taking strategies on (elimination, showing your work, re-reading, etc.) Along with using test taking strategies, you will need to apply what you’ve learned so far with grammar rules. We will be doing this every day, so get into habit. Do not share your response with anyone around you. This is individual work and I have the right to take it as a grade whenever I want. Don’t ask me when I will take it as a grade, for then I will surely take it!

TURN TO YOUR FULL WRITING PROCESS SECTION This is an example from a previous STAAR Writing exam.

READ.THINK.WRITE. What do these 3 words mean? Which word do you think is the most important and why? Be prepared to share out your response!

READ.THINK.WRITE. Think about your Winter Holiday Break. Write about “If I could use one word to describe my Winter Holiday Break, the one word I would use is ___________.” I want you to outline this before you write about it… You cannot leave my class today without this as your exit ticket.

GO TO MY NETSCHOOL Open up the essay graphic organizer and use that template to complete your outline in your journal!
