Hypothesis Writing E.Q.: How do scientists formulate hypotheses in the scientific method framework?

Hypothesis Writing 101 (copy this slide into your notebook) If (change to independent variable), then (effect on dependent variable), because (your reason why). Ex. If the global temperature rises then the polar ice caps will melt because higher temperatures will melt more ice. Use an If, then, because statement EVERYTIME!

Practice Problem Problem: Does chocolate cause pimples? Independent Variable: Chocolate Dependent Variable: Pimples forming Hypothesis: If I eat chocolate, then I will get pimples, because the oil will clog my pores.

Classwork/Homework Complete p. 5-6 in yellow packet. Come up with 5 of your own problems to write hypotheses for. If you do not complete it in class it will be assigned as homework.
