Student The Do’s and Don’ts of in Liberty Public Schools

Reasons To Have Student Required part of the Tech. Curriculum Teach students professional and educational uses for Allow students to interview experts within the school day Work with students and teachers Peer edit Literature discussion Group problem solving

Discussion Questions 1.How is used at home? 2.How is used by people at work? 3.How are the two uses the same? 4.How are the two uses different?

Reasons for Student Students quickly communicate with authors and other experts Students communicate with peers about group projects and presentations Teachers communicate with students: –Grade reports –Classroom newsletters –Makeup work –Test reminders –Paper edits –Other

Protecting Students and Teachers District accounts will not be private. Teachers and district administrators have the right to monitor all school accounts. The content and use of must always follow all school rules. Breaking school rules with will include consequences such as: –Loss of computer privileges –Alternative assignments –Detention –ISS –OSS

How will parents know that we are using district ? Parents will receive a letter explaining how and why district is being used. Parents will receive an explanation of the consequences of inappropriate use of . Parents will be notified of any examples of district misuse by their child.

Liberty Public School is NOT: A timely way to contact your family or have them contact you during the day A way to forward “e-junk” including chain letters, urban myths, free offers, jokes, etc. A way to register on unapproved websites. (This could bring “Spam” into the district )

Discussion Questions: 1.What are appropriate uses of ? 2.Why shouldn’t parents use as a way to leave important messages for their child?

Student Addresses Student’s address will be made up of the following: Example: Students in grades 5 – 7 will be able to access district from 7:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

“Netiquette” of Communication on district should: 1. Use standard English instead of the short cuts and abbreviations used in I.M and text messaging. 2. Use standard spelling. 3. Follow rules of grammar for punctuation, capitalization and sentence structure.

When will we be able to start using district ? Student addresses will be activated on September 5, Teachers may begin to require assignments, projects and tasks beginning on this date. Remember, inappropriate use will result in not only disciplinary action but also alternative assignments that do not involve the use of computers.
