Technology Figures  90% of American adults own a cell phone  64% of American adults own smartphones, up from just 35% in 2011  67% of smartphone owners use their phone at least occasionally for turn-by-turn navigation while driving, with 31% saying that they do this “frequently” -Pew Research Center

Technology Figures  25% of smartphone users utilize their phone at least occasionally to get public transit information, with 10% doing this “frequently”  52% of adults with a household income of less than $30K own a smart phone  91% of people with a disability own or use a wireless device -Pew Research Center

Technology Safety  Smartphones are the #1 item stolen on public transit  Safety tips: Avoid distracted walking or riding Be aware of your surroundings at all times Avoid noise-canceling earphones Avoid sitting by the doors when using a mobile device

Technology Safety  Risk of using public wifi (unsecured networks)  Risk of third-party applications  Reliance on sometimes out-of-date data  Privacy & continuous GPS location concerns  Can be difficult to discern comprehension vs. reliance when technology is involved
