What is Point of View? The perspective from which the story is told

Point of View in Pictures Look at the following pictures. Determine the point of view (From whose perspective is the picture taken?)

Types of Point of View First Person –Uses “I” –Example: I wrapped the presents. Third Person –Uses “he, she, or it” –Example: She wrapped the presents.

Point of View in Literature Oh, no! Please don’t put those big, sweaty things in me. That just means you’ll put me to work, tromping through mushy gunk and over sharp mounds. Oh, how that makes my soles ache. Whose point of view is this?

Point of View in Literature “Mom says I have to stop eating so much garbage right before I go to bed.” Whose point of view is this?

Determining Point of View Diary of a Worm By Doreen Cronin Pictures by Harry Bliss

Diary of a Worm Who was the narrator? What was the point of view? What examples from the story show the worm’s perspective in contrast to our own perspective? the worm first person danger of hopscotch, mushroom tables, leaf plates, tea bag box for a bed, baseball being a rock, and the leaf of money

Just for Fun: Differing Points of View 1.Look closely at the images. 2.THINK: Determine what you see. 3.PAIR: Turn to a partner and discuss what you see. 4.SHARE: Do you agree on what you see? –Why do we see things differently sometimes?
