Time Management

Part 1 I am a Visual and Verbal learner I learn better when I actually see what I am doing and I can learn better when I see diagrams. I would also prefer listening to someone teach me instead of reading out of a book.

Part 2 I play sports after school and most of the day I spend at school and when I get home I eat and I watch TV after that I do my homework and then after that I go to my soccer practice.

Part 3 Studying with Friends – Explanation: While fun, sometimes you may lose out on quality study time by socializing. – Fix: Find one good study-buddy if you like group studying. Otherwise, "just say no" when everyone wants to study together. If I study with my friends I usually don’t get too much studying done because I’m too busy talking or doing other stuff. Too much Music – Explanation: Noise and music can interfere with the brain’s ability to comprehend new information. It can also distract you from focusing on the material at hand. – Fix: If you need music in the background, find a specific type (usually classical) that works well for you. Don’t keep changing it around. When there are no lyrics, then it is easier to focus on the words on the paper in your hand. I do listen to lots of music when I am doing my homework but I don’t listen to music when I am studying because it is hard to read and listen to things at the same time. Bad Environment – Explanation: A poor study environment can ruin all quality time. If you are uncomfortable at a chair, desk, room, the temperature is too cold or too hot, you will be unsuccessful studying. – Fix: Test out different sites until you find the best place for you. It may be the library, it may be your room, your bed, your best friend’s backhouse. Who knows? Find what works best for you and stick with it. I sometimes try to study in front of the TV and I don’t really get any studying done but if I study in my room I can actually study because there are no distractions. Last Minute Cramming Explanation: While many people swear by the cramming method, it is ultimately terrible at long term knowledge retention and can cause undue stress. Fix: Study for days up until the test. Or, if you do prefer cramming, try cramming two nights prior to the exam so that the final night will not consist of stress. Rather it will be a night for review. I sometimes study the night before or I get up in the morning and study but I don’t really learn anything from study last minute because I don’t have enough time and there are lots of distractions to. Working in your Bed Explanation: While it may be comfortable, your bed can also sooth you to sleep instead of study. Fix: Sit at a desk in your room instead of on your bed. Do not study on your bed late at night, as you will be tempted to fall asleep. I study in my bed sometimes at night nut I do not go to sleep but it is uncomfortable so I can’t study a lot.

Part 4 If I have a test then I always review my notes so I can get a good mark. In the beginning of class I don’t review my notes because I only review them on the day we have a test. I don’t focus as well as I should when I’m working with my friends or other kids.

Part 5 I prefer Mind Mapping because I am a visual learner. Mind mapping is finding subjects and making it easier to understand. I like this technique because it would be easier for me to understand. This is better to do.
