Mixed metal oxides are formed on the titanium substrate through a process of thermal decomposition creating an oxide coating of the platinum group of metals. These oxide coatings have many superior electrochemical properties such as near metal conductivity and extremely low consumption rates. Coating Summary
The titanium substrate usually specified is either commercially pure titanium Grade TA1 or TA2 An equivalency chart comparing the Chinese National Standard (GB3620-94) with the ASTM standard follows: Material
Equivalency Chart Element Ti, max N, C, H, Fe, O, Residual, each total ASTM Gr1 balance 0.03 0.08 0.015 0.20 0.18 0.1 0.4 Gr2 0.30 0.25 GB (China) TA1 0.10 TA2 0.05 Equivalency Chart
Coating Types Type Coating Element Application 1 IrO2-RuO2- TiO2-X Suitable for use in sea water where Cl2 is the principal anode product. 2 IrO2-TaO5-X Suitable for use in soil, backfill, fresh water and sea water where O2, Cl2 or a combination of both are discharged at the anode. Coating Types
Anode Forms Wire Ribbon Rod Tube Mesh Sheet Canister Due to the ductility of the titanium substrate, a wide range of anode shapes suitable to the structure to be protected are possible. Anode Forms
Quality assurance and control procedures are applied strictly at all stages of production. Raw material specification Surface preparation Coating application Coating distribution and coating adhesion Anode/cable contact resistance Each assembled anode is Helium leak tested Quality Assurance
Advantages of MMO Titanium Anodes Lightweight MMO coatings demonstrate very high chemical stability even in environments with very low pH values. The coating is not affected by the generation of chlorine. Wear rate of the anode is extremely low and uniform and between 1 and 6 milligrams/ampere-year. Anode dimensions remain nearly constant during the design life of the anode. Operated at high current density e.g. 2000A/m2. A superior electrically-conductive performance: 10-7Ω·m Advantages of MMO Titanium Anodes
