Charlie Bowyer Type 1 Diabetes By Charlie me

What is diabetes?(diyahbeetees) Diabetes is an illness that has no cure but scientists are still researching. Hopefully in the near future children my age may benefit from this cure found.

How old was I when I got it? I was actually one years old when I got diabetes! I am not lying!

This is an insulin pump! Well mine is purple! The small thing next to the pump is a sensor!

How the school helps me! When I am low Mrs Shah helps me to test. Mrs Shah looks after me and when I am low she will test my sugars. Then when I am low Mrs Shah will give me some jelly babies/glucose juice. If I am below 4.0 I have 3 jelly babies and if I am below 3.0 I will immediately have glucose juice. Lastly I will be re-tested 15min later.

How home helps me Home helps me by my mom/dad test me during the night! Home also helps me by when I am being silly then my mom knows I am low! My mom and dad know that I am low because I shiver quite a lot, can’t concentrate and become very confused. When my sugars are high they realise quite quickly because I tend to visit the toilet often and become very thirsty.

This is my kit bag and box!

Does it spread? Diabetes doesn’t spread like a cold. For example: if it did spread then if I went near someone then they would have it as well. Luckily that can not happen.

How do you get it? You would get it by your pancreas stops working. Bye
