CELADOR FILM COMPANY By Hayden Lewis

Ownership Celador started up in 1983, originally as an independent production company, Celador were then taken over Complete Communications, under this ownership Celador expanded its business. Not too long after Complete Communications then sold Celador. They sold the rights and properties of ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’ (A very successful T.V show around the world) to a Dutch group, who go by the name of 2WayTraffic. In 2006 they offered those rights to a UK program library. Celador film productions is only a branch company of ‘Celador’ they also produce TV shows and radio station, helping towards the UK film and media industry.

Operating Model Because Celador is a not so large company, especially compared to some of its competitors, that when a project comes along they have a specialty to ask the freelance staff from directors and actors, and even lawyers for money to make sure the project gets finished and completed. The money would then be paid back if the film is a success. Celador has a parent company, they most likely had funding for their first few productions from sponsors and distributors. They would then use the profits made from previous films to create and fund their future projects.

Products of Celador Here are a few films they have released: Dirty Pretty Things(2002) The Descent(2006) Slumdog Millionaire(2009) The Descent Part 2(2009) Centurion(2010)

Competitors Though Celador have made 7 films in the last ten or so years, they are reasonably small film production company. They have quite a few competitors, most of which are bigger than Celador. Film4 are a much larger film production company than Celador, but they both have a link with each other. Film4 is owned by Channel 4, the T.V Channel, it’s through them that Celador gets its films onto the T.V for Television viewers to see. Sometimes Film4 and Celador even become partners in producing films. DNA Films are also another competitor along with Sony Pictures Entertainment, against Celador. Sony has made 100’s and 100’s of films, they make an incredible amount of money.
