Henderson Expectations Academic Excellence Exemplary Behavior Outstanding Attendance

Academic Excellence We have high expectations for ALL students. We want all students to obtain an 80% or higher on all quizzes and tests.

Exemplary Behavior Practice what you’ve learned Act politely Work hard Support each other We have procedures in place for the classroom, hallway, restroom, cafeteria, and bus.

Outstanding Attendance Please have your child here on time, all day, every day. The school day starts at 9:00 AM. If students arrive at 9:01, they are considered tardy and parents need to escort their children into the building in order to sign them in. Henderson’s “Top Dog” incentive program.

Teacher Goals Provide tools for students to become more independent learners Grow each student’s understanding of subject areas Prepare for SOLs (Math, Science, Reading, test taking strategies) Prepare for middle school

Class Vision and Mission

Homework Homework should not be more than 45 min. per night (per PWCS regulation) Homework will include: *Reading 20 minutes daily and note on their EMC reading calendar *Math (almost daily) *long term projects (science fair) / test preparation (study guides)

Agenda Students will copy assignments into notebook daily. We recommend that you check it daily for any notes we might have written. Upcoming test dates will be recorded in the agenda.

Friday folder Papers will be sent home at the end of the week. Please sign each weekend to show that you have reviewed papers in the folder. Send back folder signed on Monday.

Absences When students are not at school they are expected to complete missed assignments. Students have the same number of days as days absent to complete work. Work will not be given out ahead of time for planned vacations (per PWCS regulation)

Curriculum Reading Writing (Writer’s Workshop) Math Science Social Studies (see county website or our websites for curriculum and pacing guides)

STEM We are a focus school for children’s engineering integrating STEM. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) From time to time we will ask for recyclables to be brought in, so be on the lookout for notes in the agenda! STEM family night- December 10th

Accelerated Math 2.0 Individualized, computer based program We have the option of doing assignments on the computer and on paper. Reviews skills taught in class It can be used for enrichment and remediation purposes.

Accelerated Reader Individualized according to each student’s reading level (ZPD). Read and complete tests/projects on a regular basis. We have upgraded the system, so there are thousands more tests that students can take. Books from the library are no longer going to have a blue “AR” sticker on them, because there are too many of them now.

Grading Daily assignments = 1 grade Quizzes = 2 grades Test and Projects = 3 grades A = 100 – 90C = 76 – 70 B+ = 89 – 87D+ = 69 – 67 B = 86 – 80D = 66 – 60 C+ = 79 – 77F = 59 and below
