Judaism

Origin Judaism is a monotheistic religion. – One of the world’s 1 st religions to only worship ONE God. – Believe God is all-knowing, powerful, merciful & just. Began in 1800 B.C. in Canaan.

The Founder God “Yahweh” created a covenant (a promise) with Abraham & his descendants. – Abraham is the “Father of the Hebrews.”

Abraham was promised the land of Canaan as a sign of a relationship between Yahweh (God) and the Hebrew people. Hebrews believe they are a chosen people. – This is symbolized through the land of Israel.

Holy Book God’s law was revealed through Moses. Moses was the law- giver and author of the first books of the Torah. Torah – sacred writings of Judaism. It contains the first 5 books of the Hebrew Bible.

The most well-known laws of God are the Ten Commandments. It teaches that Yahweh rewards people according to their deeds. There will be a Messiah (savior) one day who will restore Israel. They believe in an after-life but there is little emphasis on this.
