What is a travel journalist? Travel Journalist ≠ Travel Writer Focuses on people Relays facts Focuses on place Encourages tourism Both share the narrative essay format and strive to understand the culture of the place of focus, although with different end goals

Travel Journalism and Anthropology Anthropology (noun) the study of humankind, in particular Cultural Anthropology: the comparative study of human societies and cultures and their development Physical Anthropology: the science of human zoology, evolution, and ecology

Travel Journalism as a Career Degree: BA in Journalism, Communications, or similar Median Salary: $57,750 (as of 2013) Pros: Traveling, writing, nontraditional schedule, adventure and people oriented Cons: Jet lag and other travel problems, lots of time spent in airports, culture shock, communication barriers, food born illnesses and other health related issues
