Presentation transcript:

Cameron just moved to a new school that was very diverse. This was strange for her as she had gone to a mostly white school prior to her move. Her mother had decided to move her to this school because they had a more sophisticated curriculum which will give her a better chance to get into a college. Cameron’s mother was hoping that this school could improve Cameron’s deficiency in reading. Although they had heard wonderful things about the new school, Cameron had her doubts. On the first day, she got a gouge in her backpack when a vindictive student stabbed it with a pair of scissors.

WEEK 7 WORDS Deficiency Vindictive Gouge Diverse Sophisticated

Deficiency when something does not have enough of something (especially something in your body) A weakness or imperfection in someone. The doctor was concerned about Joel’s vitamin E deficiency.

Vindictive When someone is critical of someone because they deliberately try to upset or cause trouble for someone who they think has caused them harm. Mike was teased as a child and he became a vindictive bully when he got older.

Gouge When someone makes a hole or a long cut in it usually with a pointed object. Rory was scared when a chainsaw gouged his bathroom door.

Diverse When a group is made up of a wide variety of things. We were excited to go to the new book store with a diverse range of books.

Sophisticated When a machine, device or method is more advanced or complex than something else. The teacher was impressed by the children’s sophisticated appreciation of art
