Towards a New Beginning The Fourth Norfolk Older People’s Strategy

Why do we need one? The immediate future presents new challenges and some opportunities for Norfolk’s older people Are we an unsupportable drain on diminishing resources? Or are we a vital resource to support society? Which do we prefer?…..it is important how we define ourselves

How will we do it? By understanding and working with changing priorities and new ways of doing things By being firmly part of the prevention agenda By clearly articulating what today’s older people need, and can give Understanding and working with new models of social care to make sure that needs and capacity to deliver are aligned Keep saying “integrated approach” at every opportunity!

The seven key things Better information and advice Transport services which are integrated and provide proper access to services Housing which is truly fit for purpose, and includes more Housing with Care A better understanding of loneliness and isolation Increase numbers of volunteers and value their contribution New ways to deal with depression and anxiety An improvement in the experience of discharge from hospital

How we got here Drew on our work in 2014 and on our Awayday discussions with all Board members Six objectives agreed by forum representatives and representatives of agencies and organisations working with older people….seventh added later A working group thrashed out the key actions and milestones to achieve the objectives Broad consultation with delivery agencies on the role they can play….but this doesn’t mean they have all signed up to everything. Now we will hold relevant agencies and organisations to account for outputs and outcomes

A living document for you… This isn’t just a wish list….we’ve worked on whether and how this is deliverable The outputs and outcomes are clearly defined. We are beginning to develop a delivery time-line BUT our strategy remain aspirational where it cannot currently be supported

Next steps.. Further dialogue with agencies and organisations We refine the delivery check-list We create a review time-table And its over to you!
