Are leaders born or made? ACTIVITY

 “Great leaders are born, not made.”  Right person emerges for the job  Examples:  Mahatma Gandhi  Abraham Lincoln  Julius Caesar “GREAT MAN” THEORIES

 Similar to “Great Man” Theories  Assume that people inherit certain qualities and traits that make them better suited to leadership  Trait theories often identify particular personality or behavioral characteristics shared by leaders  Examples:  Extraversion, self-confidence, and courage are all traits that could potentially be linked to great leaders TRAIT THEORIES

 Thinking  Leader must gather and sort information to create intelligence  Seeing  Leadership requires vision  Feeling  Empathy  Listening  Listening to constituencies and self  Speaking  Communication  Walking  “Walking the walk”  Fitness  Leadership requires endurance (physical, mental, emotional) HUMAN CAPACITIES FOR LEADERSHIP
