LET’S RECAP! We know that there are 4 principal parts Base form The verb as it is Past Add “ed” to the verb Present Participle Past Participle A form of verb to be + ingA form a verb to have + ed

LET’S RECAP! A verb tense tells you when the action happens. There are three main verb tenses; past, present and future. Each tense is divided into; simple, perfect, progressive and perfect progressive.

SIMPLE TENSES FormationExamples “ PastFor regular verbs, simply add “ed” at the end of the verb Zain home for lunch. (walk) PresentAdd s for he, she and it Leave the verb in the base form for I, we they and you. Ghina to ballet every Saturday.(go) FutureAlways add will or shall to form a verb phrase You the exam. (pass)

PERFECT TENSES FormationExamples “ PastHad + verb+edZain home for lunch. (walk) Presenthas+verb+ed Have+verb+ed Ghina to ballet (go) FutureWill or shal+have+ verb+ ing You the exam before she showed up. (pass) Perfect tenses are always verb phrases. The helping verb in the phrase is always a form of verb to have. Basically write the verb using the past participle. The form of verb to have changes depending on the tense.

PROGRESSIVE FORM Progressive forms indicate a continuing action It tells the reader that the action is taking place now The action is in progress– hence the name In progressive forms we use the present participle: verb to be + verb+ing To make it simpler, I am going to categorize the 6 progressive forms into 2 parts: simple progressive and perfect progressive

A PROGRESSIVE FORM OF SIMPLE TENSES FormationExamples “ Past progressiveWas+verb+ing Were+ verb +ing Zain home for lunch. (walk) Present progressive Am+verb+ing Is+ verb+ing Were+verb+ing Ghina to ballet every Saturday.(go) Future progressive Will be+ verb+ingYou the exam. (pass)

A PROGRESSIVE FORM OF PERFECT TENSES FormationExamples “ Past perfect progressive Had been+verb+ing Zain home for lunch. (walk) Present perfect progressive Has been+ verb+ing Have been+verb+ing Ghina to ballet every Saturday.(go) Future perfect progressive. Will have been+ verb+ing You the exam. (pass) I added verb to have according to the tense with the word been and ended the verb with -ing

LET’S TRY IT OUT! Write the verb in the tense stated in the parenthesis. 1.Play (present perfect progressive) 2.Touch (past progressive) 3.Jump (future perfect progressive) 4.Fish (future progressive) 5.Hear (past perfect progressive) 6.Listen (present perfect progressive) 7.Watch (past progressive) 8.Clean (present progressive) 9.Type (future perfect progressive) 10.Land ( past perfect progressive)
