Spotted in the Wild “My father took one hundred and thirty-two minutes to die. I counted. It happened on the Jellicoe Road. The prettiest road I’d ever seen, where trees made breezy canopies like a tunnel to Shangri-La. We were going to the ocean, hundreds of miles away, because I wanted to see the ocean and my father said that it was about time the four of us made that journey. I remember asking, 'What’s the difference between a trip and a journey?' and my father said, 'Narnie, my love, when we get there, you’ll understand,' and that was the last thing he ever said.” ― Melina Marchetta, Jellicoe Road

Spotted in the Wild “Here's what I think," I say and my voice is stronger and thoughts are coming, thoughts that trickle into my noise like whispers of truth. "I think maybe everybody falls," I say. "I think maybe we all do. And I don't think that's the asking." I pull on her arms gently to make sure she's listening. "I think the asking is whether we get back up again.” ― Patrick Ness, The Knife of Never Letting GoThe Knife of Never Letting Go

SOL Practice Passage After class today, I’m going to hang out with my friends. After that, I think I’ll do some homework in a coffee shop. Around 6:00, I’ll go home and cook dinner. A movie that I want to see is playing at 7:30 tonight, so I’m going to try to watch it. It will end around 9:15. After it ends, I’ll clean up my kitchen. I will be in bed by 10:00.

The First Time I Went to a Library Book Sale The first time I went to a library book sale, I was so excited that I arrived almost a full hour early. Much to my surprise, there was already a long line of people waiting to get in! About thirty people were waiting by the door, holding giant plastic bins and oversized bags. “How many books are they planning to buy?” I wondered. As the librarian arrived to open the doors, and everyone crammed inside to reach the books, I realized that these were my people.
