Worksheet 1 The National Curriculum for PE sets out the necessary areas for development and assessment. Aims The national curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils:  develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities  are physically active for sustained periods of time  engage in competitive sports and activities  lead healthy, active lives.

Worksheet 2 and 3 Task 1 In your groups, discuss (in preparation to feedback) situations when you have had to discuss issues with your mentor in school. These situations may have been about children, or about competitive sport fixtures, or even about your coaching. Task 2 Discuss situations when you have directly sorted issues with children or parents. What was the issue and why did you sort it directly?

Worksheet 4 Team competition! You have 5 minutes to find the average reaction time (in seconds) of all people in your group.

Worksheet 5 In groups, discuss opportunities in school where staff can express and/or give their opinions to help improve the way in which the school is run. Can staff have an input into how PE and school sport is delivered in your school?

Worksheet 6 Task 1 How is PE and school sport monitored in your school? Is there more than one way?

Worksheet 6 Ofsted Inspection Observations Formal observations of PE lessons in school Completed by OFSTED inspectors (trained experts) Monitoring standards of teaching, assessment and attainment Graded 1 – 4 (Outstanding, Good, Requires Improvement, Inadequate) OUTCOMES Graded 1 or 2 – targets and action plan created to sustain and develop current practice Graded 3 or 4 – school placed in special measures with an action plan to improve service before re-inspection.

Worksheet 7 Direct Where services and operations are monitored by measurements and observations of the actual activity. Indirect Where services and operations are monitored by measurements secondary to direct observation and measurements (questionnaires, participation numbers, participation trends, equipment surveys, progress/attainment over a set period)

Worksheet 7 Task 2 Can you categorise your methods of monitoring PE and school sport in to direct and indirect methods of monitoring?

Worksheet 8 Operations in school Curriculum PE Before school club Lunchtime/break time clubs SEN/disability sport and physical activity provision Recreational clubs Competitive sport School events (sports day/sports relief…)
