Tips and Tricks for Dummies by Stalis Norma Ethica How to Easily Publish In an International Biotechnology Journal

Publishing International Journal Be brave to try 1 Prepare your manuscript and other files 2 Select your proper journal 3 Submit your journal

Prepare your manuscript and other supporting files Design, research, organize and collaborate 1

Sometimes the use of sample templates (provided by some journal publisher) are helpful to kick-off your manuscript and focus on the content You don’t have to start from scratch. Find closely related journals to yours and use their terms If you need help with ideas for a manuscript, find journals by browsing using your research keywords. Look for proper English resource (proofreading software or someone with TOEFL above 600 to help checking your manuscript) Avoid plagiarism through proper citation/ rewriting Choose proper manuscript category: Research Articles, Reviews, Short Communications, Preliminary Reports, Report Case, etc. Getting Started with Templates

It is uggested to prepare figures in TIFF or JPEG formats with min 400dpi Colored figures usually require fees (suggestions: prepare both colored and black-white) Tables usually requires no vertical lines. Check as some journal provide templates for tables. Prepare Pictures and Tables

Sometimes simultaneous edits on one single manuscript is required. Do not hesitate to get help from other Co-Authors and other expersts.. Team work with co-authors will get you there. Collaboration

2 Select Your Journal Fees, Aim and Scope, Accreditation, Publisher Reputation, Indexing, and Impact Factor

Various types of journals Journals with free submission charges Most of them are without Impact Factor (IF) (Journal of Biotech Biosci (JBB), etc.) Some that have Impact Factor (IF) usually are published by Universities (JMBFS Slovakia, etc) Some of them are very new journals (ISRN Bacteriology (Hindawi), etc) Some of them require hard copy to be sent (Polish Journal of Microbiology, etc) Some having medium to very high Impact Factor requirie high level of research quality (Microbiology) Be careful with hidden Fees Journals with free submission charges, but requires fees for open access They only let your abstracts to be freely accessed  less citations to your articles Usually belong to popular publishers such as Elsevier, Springer, John & Wiley, Francis & Taylor, etc. Jornal examples: Letters in Applied Microbiology, Anthony van Lauwenhoek, etc. Journals with fake Impact Factors and scam Check SJR / UI factor of the journals before you submit Beware of journals with fake IF factors The list of scam journals can be found online Well Indexed Journals Ensure the journals are at least indexed in Google Scholar and Scopus Poor indexed journals make your articles are hard to be found and cited High regarded Index systems are: MEDLINE, Crossref, Index Copernicus., CABI Abstract, Agricola, Proquest, EBSCO, etc. Accredited Journals have ISSRN ISSN ISBN

Tips for quick journal finding: Go to DOAJ (directory of academic journals) website Browse journals using your keywords (biotechnology, cell, microbiology, cancer, etc.) You can norrow your search by clicking “ with charges” or “without charges”; “in English” or “in other languages” in the earch results to find your target journals by handling fees or language category.

3 Submit Your Journal Check Author guidelines and submission system

» Make sure your files follow Journal Formats » If the journal using Manuscript central submission system, you have to input all co- authors’ s  all co-authors will be ed about the early decision status of your manuscript including rejections. » Be prepared for rejections and minor/ major revisions » An example of Manuscript central submission system from BIOS (Bioone) is below SUBMIT IT
