ON YOUR OWN PAPER, IDENTIFY THE TYPE OF MOVEMENT: PUSH OR PULL. THEN, IDENTIFY THE FACTOR: ECONOMIC, CULTURAL/POLITICAL, OR ENVIRONMENTAL. SCENARIO A AS OIL WEALTH INCREASES IN DUBAI, SRI LANKAN CITIZENS MIGRATE TO DUBAI IN SEARCH OF WORK. THEY OFTEN WORK THE MANUAL LABOR JOBS SUCH AS CONSTRUCTION. SCENARIO B AFSHAN WAS TARGETED AND NEARLY KILLED BY THE TALIBAN FOR SUPPORTING EDUCATION FOR GIRLS. CONFLICT WITHIN AFGHANISTAN IN THE PAST DECADES HAS BEEN INCREASING. AFSHAN’S FAMILY FLED AFGHANISTAN FOR PAKISTAN IN HOPES OF SAFETY AND A PROMISING FUTURE. QUIZ TIME: PUSH & PULL MIGRATION SCENARIOS

AFTER SEVERAL INTERVIEWS, GEMMA’S DAD WAS HIRED AND THE WHOLE FAMILY MOVED TO SCOTLAND. SCENARIO D JACOB IS A CHRISTIAN LIVING IN SOUTHERN SUDAN. HE LEFT HIS HOME WITH ONLY THE CLOTHES ON HIS BACK AND FLED TO ETHIOPIA WHICH HE HAS HEARD IS HOME TO A BRANCH OF COPTIC CHRISTIANS. JACOB HOPES TO FIND SAFETY AND ACCEPTANCE IN ETHIOPIA. SCENARIO E ICHIRO AND AIKA LIVED IN NORTHERN JAPAN BUT THERE HOME WAS DESTROYED AS A RESULT OF THE FUKUSHIMA NUCLEAR MELTDOWN IN AS A RESULT, THEY WERE FORCED TO MOVE TO OSAKA IN SOUTHERN JAPAN. SCENARIO F AS MORE EASTERN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES JOINED THE EU (EUROPEAN UNION), CROATIANS AND SERBIANS BEGAN TO WORK MANY JOBS IN THE UK PREVIOUSLY HELD BY WESTERN EUROPEANS. THIS HAS LED TO RESENTMENT AND AS A RESULT EASTERN EUROPEANS ARE NOT ACCEPTED INTO WESTERN EUROPEAN SOCIETY.
