What is a Monarchy? What was a Baron? Who is Eleanor of Aquitaine? Who was King John I? What was the Magna Carta? By: Xelhyna, Sally, Jacob, Ricky, Nathen, and Go

-A monarchy is a single leader or ruler generally a king or queen. -This leader was able to make and change laws, collect a tax, choses his or her own advisors, and give titles and estates. -The monarch would have to follow the feudal code; if the code was not followed his or hers position as leader could be over throne.

-A baron is one of the richest most powerful nobles of the king or queen. -These nobles would have great castles and armies. Also they would have a very large manor. -The king/queen would rule the land, but the barons would keep the king/queen from breaking the feudal code. -The nobles would receive a manor for their loyalty and their military support.(would help fight in kings/queens wars) Facts About Nobles -Nobles were all once knights in the kings/queens army. For there service in leading the army they were given a plot of land called a manor. Manor: A plot of land around squared km. This land would have one or more villages.(villages would generally be located near a river/stream) In the village there would be a Mill, Blacksmith, Church, Tannery, Bakehouse, and around three fields for farming.

- - Eleanor of Aquitaine was the queen of England and France. In her two marriages with Louis the VII of France, and King Henry the II of England she had ten kids. - - Eleanor’s first husband Louis the VII divorced Eleanor because obnoxious behavior, he kept the kingdom to him self. After the divorce she married Louis’s arch enemy King Henry the II of England. - - In England Eleanor did a lot. She had ten kids, two of which were soon to be kings (King John I and King Richard the Lion-Hearted). Eleanor was also the first female in English History to push for equal rights for both sexes. - - After around ten years of marriage King Henry threw Eleanor into prison. He did this to prevent him from having to share his kingdom/power. Eleanor ended up being in prison for many years. Her two sons John and Richard help over through their father, and release there mother Eleanor. Eleanor ended up living for 82 years she died due to old age. King Louis VII Of France King Henry I of England

- - King John I is most famous to be the villain in the Robin Hood Legend. He was the King of England from 1187 to King John I put all of England under a interdict.(This keeps a person from properly marring getting baptized, or buried—any religious ceremonies) This was a terrible sentence to be given in medieval times, people complained bitterly. This sentence can only be given out by the Pope at the time. - - He steeped over bounds of the feudal code. He imprisoned Barons with out trial or reason, he would take their property and keep it for himself. He raised illegal taxes, he would hired foreign solders to flight his own people, and even took hostage of his own relatives and tortured them. - - He was a extremely hated King and leader.

- - The Magna Carta is kind of like a contract. It was an arrangement for monarchs to respect the rights of the English people. By signing this contract/arrangement, King John guaranteed that the free people of England would not be preyed upon by their own king; that taxes would not be taken without permission by contract, and no one would be thrown into jail without trial or reason. - - These rights and rules are now apart of Canadas traditional laws and government. - - By signing the Magna Carta, England a big steep toward democracy. - - The Magna Carta was created by Barons and the towns people as well as the church, to protect their right and land from King John.
